Sylvester Stallone as Rambo in the Movie First Blood |
Sad times for all you social media fans – if you’re in
Sonora, Mexico, you can’t name your baby 'Facebook'.
‘Rambo’
is also off the list after the state began banning names found to be odd or
offensive.
"The law is very clear because it prohibits giving children names that are derogatory or that don't have any meaning and that can lead to bullying."Sonora state Civil Registry director
Cristina Ramirez told the Associated Press. She says the now banned names have
been found at least once in state registries.
So
far 61 names have been struck off and more could follow as officials continue
to check records in the state’s 132 new-born registries.
Ramirez
said that in the town of Navojoa, a boy was recently named "Juan
Calzon," or "Juan Panties," and a girl was named "Lady
Di."
Other
odd names include a girl called "Marciana," or "Martian,"
and a boy called "Circuncision," or "Circumcision."
Sonora
is across the border from the U.S. state of Arizona
This brings
to mind a story I read last year about a lady who named her baby Hashtag. Read that
story here.
I also
personally know of some Nigerians who have given some pretty strange names to
their children; ChickenFrog, ChristianoRonaldo, Republic, Ojutelegan (The
Haters have been put to shame) among others. What strange names have you heard?
