History: Schools =>Out, THq=> In

L-R Chief Obafemi Awolow, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, and Alhaji Ahmadu Bello - Nationalist Leaders
So I still can’t wrap my head around why the Nigerian Government would remove History from the school curriculum. Of course, many reasons were given for the goof... err... move but the fact remains that as a people, even if they are not going to end up being Historians, our school students need to be introduced to History where they can learn about the past.

This of course has many advantages; it helps the student to understand that he is part of something bigger than himself - there were people on this earth hundreds of years ago who did things and are now dead, and so there will be people on this earth after we are gone. We therefore have to do our best to leave our mark and leave a legacy for the future generations yet unborn.

Learning History also helps open up the mind of the learner. He sees the mistakes of the past and is able to proffer solutions that will prevent society from making the same mistakes again.

So bearing in mind the importance of History, i have decided to blog about the great leaders of Africa to let you know that Africa is a continent that you can be proud of. We have had great men and women come out of this continent and we have also had visionary leaders come out of Africa.

I hope you enjoy learning about the late great figures from Africa who left their mark in Leadership, Education, Science, the Arts and even Sports.

  1. posterity will judge them for removing History from the curriculum. they don't want their children and grand children to be aware of the ills they committed!
