We all saw the Insta breakup heard 'round the
world (you didn’t? No worries, I got you) — the high school dude that thought
it was a ‘brilliant’ idea to break up with his girlfriend by posting a
side-by-side pic of them together and one with her cut out, using the tag
#TransformationTuesday. The picture went viral as basically the worst breakup
of all time, and also earned the dude the title of biggest jerk EVER.
I
can't imagine what was going through this guy's head that he somehow thought
this new approach was somehow better than other classic breakup fails, but in
case there were any confusion, here are five of the all-time worst ways to
break up with someone that are still, somehow, not as bad as the Instagram
hashtag.
1.
Changing your Facebook relationship status
If
you're looking for a terrible way to end a relationship, this is one approach. Change your relationship status and post to your wall so
everyone gets the memo. One upside to this lame tactic is that you're not
publicly calling out the dumpee.
2.
Sending a breakup text
Breaking
up with someone in the most impersonal and disrespectful way via text message
is basically the MOST annoying, awful thing ever. Except at least this
seriously #rude strategy doesn't include the humiliation factor of doing it in
front of the entire world.
3.
Dumping them on their birthday right before their party
The
worst gift ever? Ruining their entire night by telling them it's o-v-e-r right
before they head to their birthday party with all of their friends! Not sure
what's worse: the feeling of being punched in the gut everytime someone asks
where he-who-shall-not-be-named is, or the pity stares you get when you relay
that he just dumped you. While high on the "horrible things to do"
scale, this is still not as tragic as your friends finding out on your Instagram
feed.
4.
Changing your Netflix password
We
all know that the ‘true sign’ you're in a relationship is when you give your
significant other your Netflix password. So it's seriously #NotCool to hint
that it's over by changing the password to your Netflix account, depriving your
former love of his or her Gossip
Girlreruns. But even this passive-aggressive breakup isn't as harsh
as fully ruining Instagram for someone you used to <3.
5.
Telling all their friends first
Telling
all of her best friends first because you're too scared to do it yourself is
the ultimate definition of rude. That's one game of
Telephone that should never be played, but even this
super-immature breakup isn't as bad as his telling every friend you've all ever
had over Instagram.
All
five tactics mentioned above plus the newly created Instagram hashtag fail are
the WORST POSSIBLE WAYS TO BREAK UP EVER. To all the guys and girls out there:
let's make a pact that we're never going to break up with someone on
Instagram/Twitter/Facebook/Netflix etc. ever again. Have some respect for your
former love and yourself and do it face-to-face. Please. <3
